Former Machakos First Lady Lilian Ng’ang’a Shares Untold Details About Her Public Life

Lilian Ng’ang’a is once again opening up about her time in the political spotlight and this time she is doing it with confidence and zero apologies.

The former Machakos First Lady has defended the role she played during her years alongside former Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua, saying the impact of her work could be seen by the public and she has no reason to stay silent about it.

In a video shared on her Instagram page on May 13, Lilian explained that a conversation with a stranger encouraged her to speak freely about her journey, especially her experiences captured in her book Madam First Lady.

She said many people judge women who have been in political spaces, but she now feels comfortable telling her story in her own words.

Was Her Time in Machakos More Than Just Public Appearances?

According to Lilian, her contribution during her time in Machakos County went beyond simply attending events or standing beside the governor during official functions.

She said the work she did was practical and touched real people in the county. During her years as First Lady, Lilian became one of the most recognised county political spouses in Kenya. She regularly appeared in programmes linked to women empowerment, community outreach, youth support, and social welfare activities.

At the time, many Kenyans associated her with the public image of Machakos County. Her fashion, communication style, and public engagements often attracted attention online and in mainstream media.

Even though the position of county First Lady is not officially recognised in the Constitution, many spouses of governors end up carrying major public expectations. Lilian was among the few who remained consistently visible throughout the governor’s term.

Now, years later, she says she is proud of that chapter of her life and refuses to act like it never happened.

So Why Is the Book Becoming a Big Topic Again?

Her renewed conversation about politics and public life is closely tied to her book Madam First Lady.

In the book, Lilian shares details about life inside political circles, the pressure that came with public attention, and the personal struggles she faced while balancing identity, expectations, and relationships.

The book also reflects on her transition from being constantly in the public eye to building a more private and independent life after leaving the political scene.

For many Kenyans, especially those who followed Machakos politics closely during Alfred Mutua’s tenure, the book offers a rare behind-the-scenes look into county leadership life.

Life After the Breakup

Lilian and Alfred Mutua ended their relationship in 2021 after years together. At the time, the breakup became one of the most talked-about stories in Kenya’s entertainment and political circles.

Although both initially described the separation as peaceful, public debate around their relationship continued online for months.

Since then, Lilian has taken a different path away from active political visibility. She later got into a relationship with Kenyan rapper Juliani, and the couple eventually welcomed a child together.

Unlike before, the two have mostly kept their relationship private, choosing family life over constant online attention.
