An embarrassing incident unfolded in Migori after the Officer Commanding Station (OCS) at Ntimaru Police Station, Daniel Muchiri, was arrested for showing up drunk at a high-level security engagement forum. The meeting, known as Jukwaa la Usalama, was led by Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen and brought together key security officials and stakeholders.

What led to the OCS’s arrest?

According to reports, Muchiri arrived at the forum while visibly intoxicated, drawing immediate concern from fellow officers and government officials. A police report revealed that he was subjected to a breathalyzer test before being referred to Migori Referral Hospital for further medical examinations. His conduct prompted swift action, and he was booked at Suna East Police Station for several hours.

What did authorities say about the incident?

Suna East Sub-County Police Commander Samwel Boit confirmed the arrest, adding that the officer was later released but remains under disciplinary review. “Appropriate disciplinary measures will be taken once investigations are concluded,” Boit stated, signaling that accountability will follow despite the release.

While Muchiri is back on the outside, the case has triggered a wider conversation about professionalism within the police service, especially during official government functions. His disciplinary outcome will be closely watched, as the matter directly touches on integrity and public trust in security officers tasked with maintaining order.
