Six people lost their lives on Tuesday morning following a tragic road accident along the Londiani-Muhoroni road. The crash occurred at the Tunnel area when a passenger bus collided with a trailer, leaving dozens injured and causing widespread disruption along the busy route.
According to Kericho County police commander James Ngetich, the bus, which belonged to Uwezo Sacco, rammed into the rear of the trailer under circumstances that are yet to be established. Both vehicles were traveling toward Kisumu at the time of the incident, highlighting the risks associated with high-traffic corridors in the region.
Five passengers and the bus driver died on the spot, while 46 others sustained injuries of varying severity. Emergency responders rushed to the scene to assist survivors and coordinate rescue efforts as debris from the collision blocked parts of the road.
What Happened at the Londiani-Muhoroni Crash Scene?
Police confirmed that 30 passengers sustained serious injuries and were taken to several hospitals across Kericho County, including Londiani and Fortenan hospitals, for urgent medical care. Thirteen other passengers suffered minor injuries, while some escaped unharmed and were treated before being discharged.
Authorities moved swiftly to manage the aftermath of the crash. The wreckage was later towed to Fortenan Police Station to allow traffic to resume and to support ongoing investigations.
Commander Ngetich stated that investigations have been launched to determine the exact cause of the accident. He emphasized that details surrounding the collision remain unclear, pending further review of the scene and witness accounts.
Safety Concerns and Police Response
In response to the tragedy, police issued a caution to motorists, urging drivers to exercise increased vigilance on the roads. Ngetich warned that many accidents can be avoided through careful driving, adherence to traffic rules, and maintaining safe distances, especially on highways frequently used by heavy commercial vehicles.
The Londiani-Muhoroni road has previously been flagged as a high-risk route due to traffic volume and limited visibility in certain sections. The incident has renewed calls for improved road safety measures and responsible driving to prevent further loss of life.
As investigations continue, authorities have appealed for patience and cooperation from the public while families mourn the lives lost in yet another devastating road accident.
