The Law Society of Kenya (LSK) has announced nationwide protests following the brutal murder of prominent city lawyer Mathew Kyalo Mbobu, who was fatally shot along Magadi Road on Tuesday, September 9.

According to police reports, Mbobu was attacked by unknown assailants on a motorbike while driving home. His killing has shocked the legal community and the wider public, sparking outrage and calls for urgent action.

Why Is the Law Society Protesting?

LSK President Faith Odhiambo condemned the murder, describing it as a targeted attack intended to intimidate lawyers across the country. She confirmed that members of the legal fraternity, alongside other concerned citizens, will march from the Milimani Law Courts through Kenyatta Avenue to Vigilance House.

The planned demonstrations aim to demand accountability from security agencies and push for swift justice. “This is not just about one lawyer. It is about ensuring that the rule of law is protected and that no lawyer is silenced through fear,” Odhiambo stressed.

How Has the Legal Community Responded?

Tributes have continued to pour in for Mbobu, who was widely respected in the profession. Colleagues and leaders across the justice sector have called his death a significant loss, urging authorities to restore confidence in the safety of lawyers and citizens alike.

Faith Odhiambo urged the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to move quickly in handling the case. She cautioned that any delays in pursuing Mbobu’s killers would “further erode the public confidence in the country’s security agencies.”

The protests are expected to be a powerful show of unity within the legal fraternity and beyond, as Kenyans rally against violence and push for justice in the wake of Kyalo Mbobu’s murder.
