Saboti Member of Parliament Caleb Amisi has caused a heated stir after insisting that a hungry crowd chant “one term!” in reference to President William Ruto’s tenure before he would buy them lunch. The dramatic exchange happened in Mudete, Vihiga County, and was later shared on his official X account on Sunday, November 23, 2025.
During the event, Amisi told residents that anyone who expected him to buy lunch had to openly declare where they stood politically. He urged those who were hungry to repeat the phrase as proof of their stance. “Kama mko njaa na manasema Caleb awapee lunch, sema one term! Kama unataka kukula, Caleb, lunch sema one term!” Amisi demanded, prompting loud cheers and chants from the crowd.
He went further and directed the chants toward prominent figures from the region. He claimed that Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi and National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula would not secure another term and grouped them together with President Ruto. “Kama unasema Ruto aende sema kwa mikono, Ruto aende asieende, Mudavadi hoiye, Wetangula hoiye wataenda na Ruto!” he said.
Why Did the “One Term” Chants Gain New Momentum?
Amisi’s remarks come shortly after Members of Parliament disrupted President William Ruto during his State of the Nation Address on Thursday, November 20, 2025. The interruption was marked by MPs chanting “Tutam,” a phrase interpreted as support for the president’s bid for a second term in the 2027 general elections.
As Ruto outlined major infrastructural plans, including road expansions, MPs stood waving two fingers in the air as a symbolic gesture. The chant overshadowed his announcement but also highlighted the deepening political tension over his future on the national stage.
Ruto was detailing key transport projects when the chants erupted. He said he was set to begin the dualling of the 170-kilometre Rironi–Naivasha–Nakuru–Mau Summit road and break ground on the 58-kilometre Rironi–Maai Mahiu–Naivasha road.

What Major Roads Has Ruto Listed for Dualling?
The president listed an extensive lineup of major roads set for expansion as part of easing nationwide traffic flow. “Next week, I will launch the dualling of the 170-kilometre Rironi–Naivasha–Nakuru–Mau Summit road. On the same day, we will break ground on the dualling of the 58-kilometre Rironi–Maai Mahiu–Naivasha road. The gridlock that paralyses these roads every day—especially on weekends and holidays—will soon be history,” Ruto said.
He added that more major roads are earmarked for dualling, including Muthaiga–Kiambu–Ndumberi, Machakos Junction–Mariakani, Mau Summit–Kericho–Kisumu, Kisumu–Busia, Mau Summit–Eldoret–Malaba, Athi River–Namanga, Karatina–Nanyuki–Isiolo, Makutano–Embu–Meru–Maua, Mtwapa–Malindi, Mombasa–Lunga Lunga, Kericho–Kisii–Migori–Isebania, Nakuru–Nyahururu–Karatina, Kisii–Oyugis–Ahero, the Northern Bypass, James Gichuru Road, Bomas–Karen–Ngong, Bomas–Ongata Rongai–Kiserian, Ngong–Isinya, and Naivasha–Kikuyu, among many others.
The clash between Amisi’s one-term demands and the MPs’ “Tutam” chants adds fuel to the ongoing national debate over whether President Ruto should get another term or not.
