Eight people have lost their lives and seven others were seriously injured following a tragic road accident that occurred on Tuesday night at Mukhonje trading centre in Lugari Constituency, Kakamega County.
The crash took place along the busy Eldoret–Webuye highway and involved a passenger matatu and a truck transporting fertilizer. Witnesses said the matatu, which was heading from Eldoret, rammed into the rear of the truck that had been parked on the roadside as the driver attempted to overtake other vehicles.
Maturu Sub-location Assistant Chief Samuel Wamalwa confirmed the incident, noting that the matatu driver was among those who died in the collision.
