Edwin Juma Wanyama, widely known as I Am Chosee, is rapidly becoming one of Kenya’s most exciting rising comedians. Coming from Bungoma County, he has built a massive following through his Luhya-accented skits and humorous portrayals of everyday village life. For many Kenyans raised in rural areas, his content feels familiar and comforting, bringing real-life scenarios to the screen funnily and nostalgia.
His comedy captures moments that many grew up around: the strict but loving mother, the curious teenager navigating chores and friendships, and the unpredictable rhythm of village life. Chosee’s natural acting style, expressive delivery, and sharp timing turn ordinary moments into scenes that consistently resonate with audiences.
What Makes Chosee’s Skits Stand Out?
Chosee’s ability to mirror rural Kenyan life is a key part of his appeal. His stories reflect the warmth, chaos, and charm of village homes, making his content relatable across generations. The Luhya accent he uses has become part of his signature identity, adding depth and authenticity to every character he portrays.
A significant contributor to the authenticity of his content is his recurring on-screen partnership with creator Mary Nyonje, who appears as his mother. Beyond the skits, she is his biological aunt, adding a real family bond that viewers can feel. Their chemistry and playful timing have turned many of these videos into fan favourites.
Chosee frequently collaborates with well-known digital creators like Jacky Vike, also known as Awilo, Diana Luvanda, and Kenan Osyaju, popularly called Khoja Afrique. These collaborations continue to expand his comedic world, creating exaggerated yet familiar stories about rural communities, youthful mischief, and family dynamics.
TikTok has become his biggest stage, with his videos regularly going viral and attracting large numbers of comments from viewers who say his storytelling takes them back home. The combination of village settings, lively characters, and his unique delivery has positioned him as one of the fastest-rising young comedians in Kenya’s digital space.
How Did Chosee Begin His Comedy Journey?
Chosee’s rise began behind the scenes. In a past interview with Oga Obinna, he shared that his content creation journey started when he joined Khoja Afrique as a cameraman and director between 2023 and 2024. Working alongside a prominent creator helped him sharpen his skills and understand the world of online storytelling.
“Nilianza kuact na mama February 2025, lakini nilianza kuact na Khoja Afrique, nilikuwa cameraman wake director kwanza, alikuwa analeta content na ibuild since 2023, 2024,” Chosee disclosed.
His breakthrough came in 2025 when he shifted from working behind the camera to creating village-life content of his own. The relatable nature of his skits quickly captured the attention of Kenyan audiences.
“Sasa nilianza kuact na Khoja September 2024, then nika come up na idea ya kufanya content yenye mtu anaweza relate.”
Chosee also explained the origin of his stage name, revealing that it was inspired by his childhood nickname.
“Jose ni nickname nilipewa nikiwa mtoto mdogo lakini mama yangu alikuwa ananiita Chosee ndio ika influence watu,” he revealed.
