Family and friends of the late gospel singer Beatrice Mbugua, popularly known as Betty Bayo, have gathered at Kenyatta University Referral Mortuary to collect her body ahead of her burial today, Thursday, November 20, 2025. The celebrated gospel artist will be laid to rest at her Mugumo home along Kirigiti Road, near Kamiti Corner.
Emotional scenes unfolded at the mortuary as loved ones consoled one another while preparing to say their final goodbyes. Betty Bayo, known for hits like 11th Hour, leaves behind a lasting legacy cherished by colleagues, fans, and the media community. Today’s burial is expected to attract family, friends, and members of the gospel and media fraternity paying their respects.
The family has emphasized that no photos or live streaming will be allowed inside the mortuary. Karangu Muraya stated, “Hakuna mwenye atakata live ama atawacha kuchukua content yake, but content yote zitafika kwa hii mlango, kwa sababu hapa ndani hawataruhuru mtu aingie na camera.”
How Will Betty Bayo’s Funeral Service Be Conducted?
Gospel artist Shiru wa GP revealed that the funeral service will take place at Ndumberi Stadium on Thursday, November 20, 2025. Speaking to Kameme FM presenter Muthoni wa Kirumba, also known as Baby Top, Shiru explained that the family and burial committee had finalized all arrangements for hosting guests.
“We have planned all things about how we will lay her to rest, and we will all go to the stadium for the burial. That is where we will have the burial service, and that is the same place where people who will attend the burial will eat from,” Shiru said. Following the service, family and close friends will proceed to Mugumo, Kirigiti Road, near Kamiti Corner, where Betty Bayo will be interred. A memorial and candle-lighting ceremony is scheduled for Sunday.

Betty Bayo passed away on Monday, November 10, 2025, at exactly 1:03 pm at Kenyatta National Hospital’s private wing. She had been battling acute leukemia and complications from excessive bleeding that worsened over the weekend. The 11th Hour hitmaker’s untimely death has left a void in Kenya’s gospel music scene, but her music and contributions continue to inspire fans across the country.
Her funeral promises a heartfelt farewell, celebrating her life, faith, and enduring impact on gospel music.
