Media personality Betty Kyallo has expressed concern over the growing wave of political instability and violence spreading across several African countries. In a reflective message shared on her Instagram stories on Monday, November 3, 2025, she urged her followers to stay mindful of the suffering affecting millions across the continent.
“Happy new week guys. As we go about our daily lives, let’s not forget about the conflicts unfolding in our continent. Violence, displacement, and human rights abuses are pouring in shockingly from Tanzania, Sudan, and the Democratic Republic of Congo,” she wrote.
Her message resonated with many of her followers, highlighting the need for greater awareness and empathy amid the ongoing humanitarian crises in Africa.
What is happening in Tanzania, Sudan, and the DRC?
Betty’s remarks come at a time when multiple African nations are facing heightened political tensions, civil unrest, and armed conflict. Tanzania is currently in the spotlight following its disputed national elections, which have led to widespread public outrage and protests. The ruling Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) party, led by President Samia Suluhu Hassan, has been accused by human rights organizations of suppressing political freedoms and silencing opposition voices.
Meanwhile, Sudan’s crisis continues to escalate as the brutal power struggle between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) drags on. The conflict, which began in April 2023, has devastated regions such as Khartoum and Darfur, leading to the deaths of tens of thousands and the displacement of millions. Entire communities have been destroyed, hospitals flattened, and food shortages have left countless families on the verge of starvation. The United Nations has warned that Sudan could soon face “the world’s largest displacement crisis” if the fighting continues unchecked.
Why are these conflicts a growing concern across Africa?
In the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), decades of unrest remain unresolved as armed groups battle government forces over control of mineral-rich territories. The M23 rebel movement, reportedly backed by foreign actors, has been at the center of renewed violence that has displaced more than 1 million people in North Kivu Province alone. Ethnic rivalries, weak governance, and competition for natural resources continue to fuel the crisis, leaving civilians vulnerable to killings, sexual violence, and forced recruitment.
Betty Kyallo’s message reflects a shared frustration among many Africans who feel that global attention to these crises remains limited. Her call for compassion serves as a reminder that beyond social media trends and entertainment, millions on the continent are enduring violence and displacement daily.
