Residents of Samoget village in Bomet East Sub-county are reeling from shock after a 25-year-old woman allegedly killed her boyfriend following a dispute over a mobile phone.
According to Bomet East Sub-County Police Commander Michael Singa, the suspect, Faith Cherono, went to her boyfriend’s home on Tuesday to demand the return of a phone she claimed belonged to her. What began as a simple disagreement quickly turned into tragedy. The couple reportedly argued but appeared to reach an agreement to settle the issue later in the day.
What Happened Before the Tragic Attack?
Witnesses told police that the two were later seen walking together toward the Mau Forest area. Investigators believe that it was there that Cherono allegedly attacked Emanuel Kiprono, 33, striking him fatally on the back of the head with a sword.
After the attack, police say Cherono fled the scene and crossed into neighboring Narok County. She later surrendered herself at Tendwet Police Station, where she was taken into custody.
Officers who visited the scene recovered Kiprono’s body, which had a deep cut at the back of the head. The remains were moved to Tenwek Hospital Mortuary for a post-mortem examination. Police Commander Michael Singa confirmed that Cherono is in custody as investigations into the fatal confrontation continue.
The community of Samoget remains deeply shaken by the incident, which has sparked renewed concern over rising domestic disputes in the region.
