The National Police Service Commission (NPSC) has announced the recruitment of 10,000 police officers, officially ending weeks of tension with the National Police Service (NPS).
The announcement was made through a notice in a local daily, where the commission invited qualified applicants to download recruitment forms online, complete them, and present themselves at designated centres. The recruitment exercise will take place nationwide from October 3 to October 9, 2025, across 416 centres.
Who Can Apply for Police Recruitment?
The NPSC stated that the opportunity is open to Kenyan citizens aged between 18 and 28 years. Applicants must have attained a minimum grade of D+ in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE). On the recruitment day, candidates are expected to carry their original academic certificates and national identification cards for verification.

Why Was the Recruitment Delayed?
The recruitment comes after weeks of disagreement between the NPSC and the NPS. Initially, the commission had proposed a model where applicants would apply online, be shortlisted, and only then attend a physical vetting exercise. That plan was eventually dropped, with the final decision allowing all interested candidates to appear in person with filled forms on the recruitment day.
Earlier this month, both Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja and NPSC Chairperson Amani Komora appeared before the National Administration and Internal Security Committee of the National Assembly. They assured lawmakers that the recruitment notice would be published by Thursday, September 11, 2025. The official advertisement has now fulfilled that commitment, opening the door for thousands of young Kenyans to compete for positions in the police service.
