Morocco are chasing history on Saturday as they take on Madagascar in the African Nations Championship (CHAN) final at Nairobi’s Kasarani Stadium. Victory would give the Atlas Lions an unprecedented third CHAN title, following triumphs in 2018 and 2020.

How Have Morocco Reached the CHAN 2025 Final?

Despite an early group-stage shock defeat to Kenya, Morocco recovered strongly. They eliminated defending champions Senegal in a dramatic semi-final penalty shootout, booking their place in the final. Coach Tarik Sektioui has kept his squad focused throughout a challenging tournament that required more travel than any other team, with fixtures spread across Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda.

Morocco have been the most clinical side in front of goal, scoring 14 times and recording the highest number of shots on target. Forward Oussama Lamlioui has led the charge with four goals, putting him in pole position for the Golden Boot. “Our goal is always to win this trophy,” Sektioui said before the semi-final, highlighting Morocco’s ambition.

What Makes Madagascar a Dangerous Opponent?

Madagascar is appearing in its first-ever CAF final, just two years after finishing third on its CHAN debut in 2022. Their run has been fueled by the striking partnership of Fenohasina Gilles Razafimaro and Toky Rakotongraibe, with midfielder Lalaina Rafanomezantsoa adding creativity. However, Razafimaro will miss the final due to suspension, while doubts remain over Andy Rakotondrajoa’s fitness after a semi-final knock.

Who Has Been Madagascar’s Standout Performer?

At 39, veteran goalkeeper Michel Ramandimbisoa has been one of the stars of the tournament. With 25 saves, three clean sheets, and two Man of the Match awards, his presence has been crucial to Madagascar’s success. Coach Romuald Rakotondrabe praised his influence: “We are very proud to have him with us. He has really helped us in every match, and we hope he can go into the next game with the same spirit.”
