Diana Bahati: Mariga Ignored My Calls, That’s Why Harambee Stars Haven’t Been Paid

Kenyan singer Kevin Bahati has reignited debate over his KSh 1 million pledge to the Harambee Stars, this time shifting blame to Football Kenya Federation (FKF) vice chairperson McDonald Mariga. Weeks after the team’s victory over Morocco at the 2024 CHAN tournament, Bahati claims Mariga’s lack of response stalled the payment and even went ahead to leak their private WhatsApp conversations.

Did Bahati Promise Harambee Stars KSh 1 Million?

Before Kenya’s clash against Morocco, Bahati and his wife, Diana Marua flaunted KSh 1 million in cash online, promising to hand it over if the Stars won. Against all odds, the team triumphed despite being a man down, but the players never received the money. Critics accused Bahati of chasing publicity, while others pressed him to deliver.

In his comeback, Bahati showcased KSh 3 million, arguing he had no intention of backing out. “Good morning, senior, pole I missed your call. I was on set and also on a family vacation. I understand this week is crucial for the team’s training, so if I delay allow me to do it next week. Hii yangu ningetumana ni vile Wakenya wanataka proof nikipeana so naomba nijiletee aki,” read one of his leaked messages to Mariga.

Why Is Mariga Being Dragged Into the Drama?

Bahati shared multiple follow-up messages to Mariga, some sent even after Kenya’s exit from the competition, all without replies. He insisted that Mariga’s silence was the reason players had yet to be rewarded. The leaked exchanges sparked another wave of online backlash, with fans saying: “Timiza ahadi, story mingi wacha.”

What Was Samidoh’s Take on Bahati’s Pledge?

As the saga continued, Mugithi star Samidoh chimed in, joking with Harambee Stars players that Bahati might never pay the money. Instead, he teased that the singer could reward them with mangoes. The lighthearted jab only fueled more skepticism about whether the pledge will ever reach the players.

The controversy has left Kenyans divided, with many now waiting to see if Bahati will finally honor his promise or if the KSh 1 million will remain just another showbiz stunt.
