How was the drug trafficking operation intercepted?
Police officers in Migori County arrested a 32-year-old man, Edwin Okondo Nyagaga, on Thursday after intercepting a major drug trafficking operation. The arrest followed a tip-off that led officers from Oruba Police Station to stop a black Toyota Kluger, registration number KBS 517N, along the Giribe-Masara Road.

Upon searching the vehicle, authorities discovered eight large sacks of bhang weighing a total of 457.6 kilograms. The street value of the narcotics is estimated at Ksh.13.7 million, marking one of the largest recent hauls in the region.

What else was found in the vehicle?
In addition to the bhang, police recovered four different number plates, KBP 716H, KBT 673F, KBW 341T, and KBX 142P. Investigators believe the plates were used to disguise the vehicle’s identity and avoid detection while transporting the illegal cargo.

The Toyota Kluger and all recovered items were taken to Oruba Police Station, where the suspect was also booked for processing. Authorities are now working to determine if Nyagaga is part of a larger drug trafficking syndicate operating within the region.

What’s next for the suspect and the case?
Edwin Okondo Nyagaga is expected to be arraigned in court as police continue with investigations. The bust underscores the ongoing crackdown on drug trafficking networks in Kenya’s border counties. Police have urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity that could aid in dismantling illegal operations.
