Residents of Thome Estate in Nairobi took to the streets in protest following reports that the son of Deputy Inspector General Eliud Lagat was allegedly involved in the killing of a young man during a confrontation.

The incident occurred on Wednesday night near a Rubis petrol station in Thome. Witnesses say the altercation started as a verbal argument between the DIG’s son and the victim. The situation escalated quickly, and the young man was allegedly assaulted to death.

As news of the incident spread, locals responded with anger and frustration. Demonstrators blocked key roads in the area using stones and burning tires, calling for justice and demanding the immediate arrest of the DIG’s son. The protests disrupted traffic and drew a heavy police presence as residents refused to disperse until action was taken.

According to residents, this is not just about the violent death of one man, but also about concerns over impunity and power being used to shield those in authority. Protesters insisted that justice must be applied fairly and without favoritism, regardless of the suspect’s family background.

This latest development comes amid ongoing public criticism of Eliud Lagat himself, who has been under pressure following separate allegations connected to police brutality. The incident in Thome adds to growing calls for accountability and transparency within Kenya’s law enforcement leadership.

Authorities have yet to issue an official statement confirming or denying the involvement of DIG Lagat’s son in the fatal altercation. Meanwhile, residents continue to push for a thorough investigation and swift legal action, warning that silence or inaction could fuel further unrest.
