The National Police Service (NPS) has issued a traffic advisory for Nairobi ahead of the highly anticipated African Nations Championship (CHAN) quarterfinal between Harambee Stars and Madagascar on Friday, August 22, 2025, at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani. Several roads will be closed temporarily, with diversions in place to ease congestion along the Thika Superhighway and around the stadium.

Which Roads Will Be Affected?

Motorists travelling from Nairobi CBD towards Thika Road (Ruiru, Juja, and Thika) have been advised to use Kiambu Road at Exit 4, with a roadblock set at Muthaiga. Those using the Thika Superhighway and heading to Mwiki should instead follow the Ruaka, Baba Ndogo, Lucky Summer, Nairobi River, and Mwiki route.

Vehicles coming from Thika, Juja, and Ruiru heading to the city centre are directed to use the Northern Bypass or Kiambu Road, with another roadblock stationed at Ruiru Interchange. Motorists from Githurai to Nairobi CBD are urged to use the Githurai 44, Kiambu Road route.

What About Fans Heading to Kasarani Stadium?

Fans travelling from the city centre to Kasarani without vehicle access passes will be required to use the service lanes at Exit 7 and Exit 8. Police confirmed that extra officers have been deployed to manage the expected heavy traffic and maintain order during the match day.

In its statement, NPS emphasized strict enforcement of traffic regulations. “The National Police Service continues to work collaboratively with relevant agencies and urges all motorists to cooperate with officers on-site to ensure smooth traffic flow,” the statement read in part. The service also warned that stern action will be taken against anyone flouting the rules.

With thousands of fans expected to attend, the measures are aimed at ensuring both safety and convenience as Harambee Stars fight for a historic CHAN semifinal spot.
