
A security guard stationed at Kenya Power’s Stima Plaza in Nairobi was fatally shot on Wednesday evening amid the ongoing nationwide protests. The victim, identified as Fred Wamale Wanyonyi, was an employee of Hatari Security and was on duty at the Kolobot Road entrance when the tragic incident occurred around 4:30 p.m.
What Happened Outside Kenya Power Offices?
In a statement released by the power utility company, Kenya Power confirmed the fatal shooting and expressed deep regret over the incident. “We are deeply saddened to report that Mr. Fred Wamale Wanyonyi, a security guard stationed at our Stima Plaza headquarters, was fatally shot at the entrance of the building at 4:30 pm this evening during the ongoing protests,” the company stated.
Wamale was immediately rushed to Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital following the shooting, but was pronounced dead on arrival. “Mr. Wamale, an employee of Hatari Security, was on duty at the Kolobot Road entrance when the incident occurred. He was rushed to Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival,” the statement continued.

How Has Kenya Power Responded?
Kenya Power said it is working closely with investigative agencies to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the shooting. “We regret the unfortunate death of Mr. Wamale and are working with the relevant investigative organs to unearth the circumstances under which the incident occurred,” the company noted.
The utility company extended its condolences to Wamale’s family, friends, and colleagues, emphasizing the loss of life in what began as peaceful demonstrations.
