TikTok Gets Three-Month Lifeline as Trump Extends Sale Deadline Again

TikTok will keep running in the U.S. for at least three more months, thanks to a new decision by President Donald Trump to extend the sale-or-ban deadline. This marks the third time the deadline has been pushed back in 2020.

On Tuesday, the White House confirmed that Trump will issue an Executive Order allowing the short-form video app to remain operational beyond the original January cutoff. The move gives more time for ByteDance, TikTok’s Chinese parent company, to finalize a sale to a U.S.-based buyer.

The Trump administration has raised national security concerns over TikTok’s data handling, arguing that American users’ personal information could be at risk if stored or accessed by foreign servers. The 90-day extension aims to ensure that any potential deal will protect user data and meet U.S. security standards.

Previously, ByteDance was in talks with American companies like Oracle and Walmart for a potential partnership or sale, but negotiations have moved slowly. The extension now gives all parties extra breathing room to reach a final agreement.
