Popular Kenyan singer Marya, best known for her 2010 hit Chokoza featuring Avril, is recovering at home after suffering a stroke. The stroke was caused by a blood clot that reduced oxygen to her brain, leaving one side of her body unresponsive.
Her longtime friend and fellow musician Avril shared an emotional update on Instagram, revealing that although Marya has been discharged from the hospital, she is still in the early stages of recovery. The update included a heartfelt message from Marya’s family, thanking everyone for their prayers and support. They also shared that Marya is undergoing physiotherapy twice a day.
In her own social media post, Marya gave fans a hint of her personal life during this difficult time. She posted photos with her two children, one showing her resting on a couch, and another holding her youngest while her older son stood nearby. She shared that her oldest child is still in shock from seeing his mother in such a condition.
Avril’s post was also a heartfelt appeal for continued support from fans, friends, and the Kenyan music community. She emphasized that Marya still needs help and asked people to keep reaching out with calls, prayers, or even simple visits.
Earlier, Avril also mentioned that Marya will need long-term home care to regain her movement and strength. She listed items needed to make this possible, such as a hospital bed, a wheelchair, a ripple mattress, and other essentials.
The music community and fans have responded with love, sharing words of encouragement and remembering Marya’s impact on the Kenyan music scene. As one of the top female artists under Ogopa Deejays in the 2000s and 2010s, Marya is known for timeless tracks like Hey Baby and Sishiki Simu.
