Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has issued a bold warning, directly pointing fingers at President William Ruto. Speaking from Karen on Monday, Gachagua claimed his life is under threat and that if anything happens to him, Ruto should be held responsible.
He says he was followed by security operatives during a church visit in Murang’a on Sunday. The alleged plan? To hit him with tear gas laced with poison. According to him, the hit squad included officers from the National Police Service, General Service Unit, National Intelligence Service, and the regular police.
Gachagua did not stop there. He also accused security forces of plotting to plant illegal weapons in his car and those of his allies. He added that Ruto had ordered his licensed bodyguards to be stripped of their firearms, a move he believes is meant to weaken his security.
Gachagua, who was ousted from office last October after a political fallout with Ruto, insists the government is going after him because he has exposed corruption among senior officials. He made it clear he will not be silenced.
“Stopping me won’t work,” he said. “It’s Kenyans who won’t be intimidated.”

He also responded to backlash over comments he made in a recent interview, where he warned of potential post-election chaos if the 2027 polls are not handled fairly. Critics accused him of inciting violence, but he says his words were misunderstood. He insists he was only cautioning the IEBC to uphold electoral integrity.
“I simply said, if the election is rigged, the fallout will be worse than 2007. That was not a threat, but a warning,” Gachagua explained.
As for rumors of his pending arrest, he says no summons has been issued. But if they want him, he’s not hiding.
“Let them come for me,” he said. “Don’t wait for me on the roads.”
Whether this is political theater or a real security scare, Gachagua’s statements have shaken up the national conversation.
