Eric Omondi Raises KSh 800K to Help Granny Who Tried to Pay School Fees with Chickens

Sometimes, all it takes is six chickens to spark a nationwide wave of kindness, and comedian Eric Omondi was right at the center of it.

You’ve probably seen the viral photos: Consolata Aoko, a grandmother from Homa Bay, sitting outside a school office with her grandkids, clutching a basket of live chickens. Her plan? Use them to pay part of the KSh 245,000 school fee balance her grandchildren owed. That photo hit home for many Kenyans, and the internet lit up with sympathy, support, and questions about how such a thing was even possible in 2025.

Erick Omondi, known for more than just laughs, Eric’s Sisi Kwa Sisi Initiative has become a lifeline for families like Aoko’s. Moved by her determination, Eric launched a fundraiser and raised over KSh 800,000 in just days. He didn’t just talk about it, he showed up. In a video that’s as heartwarming as it is real, Eric hugged Aoko and her grandkids, then walked into a KCB branch in Kendu Bay to deposit the funds.

Out of the total, KSh 600,000 has been set aside for the kids’ college education once they finish high school. The rest will help Aoko start her fish business, something that gives her a stable way to support her family moving forward.

Cash laid out on a table, a tearful “thank you” from Aoko, and Eric standing by her side, it’s the kind of moment that makes social media worth it.

This isn’t a one-off, either. Eric recently helped an orphaned boy in Nyamira get back to school and even got him a new house. The man’s turning empathy into action, one story at a time.

So next time someone tells you social media can’t change lives, show them six chickens and the power of showing up when it counts.
