Mosiria Exposes Illegal Short-Stay Rentals in Kilimani Operating as Brothels

Nairobi’s Citizen Engagement and Customer Service CEC, Geoffrey Mosiria, has warned the public about illegal short-stay rentals operating as brothels in Kilimani, urging married women to be vigilant about their partners’ movements. The revelation comes amid growing concern over unlicensed businesses disguised as massage parlours and rental units in the city.

Taking to his official X account on Friday, January 9, 2026, Mosiria highlighted that many massage parlours in Kilimani display suggestive graphics and phone numbers, often set up at night, but are not licensed by the Nairobi County Government.

“I want to bring to the attention of Nairobians, and Kenyans at large, that most of the massage signages you see in KILIMANI and other parts of the city, especially those with graphics that suggest sexuality and only display a phone number, are illegal and not licensed by the county government,” Mosiria said.

He explained that these establishments often operate short-stay rental businesses within residential estates, making them difficult to identify. Many are run clandestinely, blending into the neighborhood while conducting illegal activities.

“These signages are usually put up at night. Most of these establishments are actually brothels operating illegal prostitution businesses. They normally run this business within residential estates, making them very hard to recognise unless one is keen enough,” Mosiria added.

What risks do these illegal rentals pose to residents?

Mosiria further warned that activities within these establishments are frequently recorded using hidden cameras. The videos are then used to extort money from clients, creating a cycle of deception and exploitation.

“I call upon people, especially men, to be very careful. In the process of engaging in these illegal activities, they are secretly recorded using hidden cameras, and the footage is later used to extort money, with threats of the videos being exposed,” he said.

He also issued a direct warning to married women to monitor their partners’ whereabouts, especially if they claim to be visiting friends in short-stay rentals. According to Mosiria, secrecy and involvement in such illegal activities have been major factors in the breakdown of marriages.

“I am also appealing to married women to closely monitor their men, especially when they say they are visiting friends. This is how many marriages break up through secrecy, deception, and involvement in illegal activities,” Mosiria said.

Highlighting his role in protecting communities, Mosiria noted that many leaders avoid condemning such acts, but as the officer in charge of citizen engagement, he considers it his responsibility to expose these illicit operations.

“No leader may have the courage to condemn these acts, but as the officer tasked with communication and citizen engagement, I believe this is the right time to expose this rot in society and protect our families and communities,” he added.
