Pastor Victor Kanyari has called on Kenyans to support President William Ruto, days after publicly declaring his political stance. On Tuesday, January 6, 2026, the self-proclaimed prophet shared a statement on his official Facebook account encouraging citizens to “love Ruto,” promising to explain his reasons for promoting unity and support for the President.

“Guys, pendeni Ruto, nitawaambia why,” Kanyari wrote, signaling a notable shift in his political alignment.

What Is Kanyari’s Political Background?

Previously, Kanyari was an outspoken supporter of the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga. On December 29, 2025, he shared, “Hata mimi ni team baba. Rest well, baba,” reflecting on his loyalty to Raila during past elections. Following the ODM leader’s death, Kanyari admitted uncertainty about future political engagement, revealing that he no longer closely follows political news.

“Mimi sionangi news, nilikuwa naona news kwa sababu ya Raila Odinga, sasa juu alikufa. I no longer watch the news,” he stated, highlighting a clear shift in his involvement with political affairs.

Kanyari also hinted at potential political ambitions, suggesting he may vie for a seat in the next general elections in 2027. During a church service at his Salvation Healing Ministry on December 14, 2025, he reflected on his past support for Raila and explained that he might only participate in voting if he chooses to run for office himself.

“Mimi nilikuwa mtu wa Raila Odinga, wakati wa Uhuru nilimsupport tukaanguka, sasa amekufa sasa sitachagua mimi tena raisi labda sasa vile nataka kusimama ka kiti kengine hapo sijui ata kama nitasimama nitajaribu, na nitasimama hiyo wakati otherwise ssingechagua,” Kanyari revealed, underlining the uncertainty of his future political engagement.

What Warnings Did Kanyari Give Politicians and the Public?

In addition to declaring support for Ruto, Kanyari cautioned politicians and the public against relying on viral political slogans. He specifically criticized phrases like “wantam” and “tutam,” which have become popular among political campaigns leading up to the next general elections.

“Jitokeza ufanya kazi wacha kusema wantam, tutam,” he warned, emphasizing that genuine political action should take precedence over viral catchphrases.

Kanyari’s statements reflect both a personal political shift and a call for responsible engagement among Kenyans. By urging support for Ruto while also highlighting the dangers of superficial political messaging, the pastor is positioning himself as a figure advocating for thoughtful participation in the upcoming elections.
