Stand-up comedienne Stella Bunei Koitie, popularly known as Jemutai, has declared that she will contest the Elgeyo Marakwet Women Representative seat in the 2027 General Election. Her announcement came through her official Instagram account on Wednesday, December 3, 2025, marking her entry into national politics after years of building a strong presence in entertainment through comedy and relatable online content.
The poster she shared confirmed that she will vie under the United Democratic Alliance party with the slogan “I understand women better.” Her campaign aims to challenge and potentially unseat the current Women Representative, Ngelechei Caroline Jeptoo, who has held the position since the last election. Jemutai’s shift from comedy to politics highlights a growing trend of public personalities using their influence to pursue leadership roles and community-centered agendas.
Why are more entertainers joining politics?
Jemutai is not entering the race alone, as several Kenyan celebrities have also expressed political ambitions ahead of 2027. Among them is Kenyan musician and entrepreneur Karagu Kimani, widely known as KRG The Don, who reaffirmed his intention to run for Nairobi Senator.
KRG made his announcement on November 24, 2025, through Instagram, while encouraging Nairobi residents to prioritise voter registration. He said he understands the day-to-day challenges faced by city residents and wants to be part of the change they desire.
“Take some time off your busy schedule and register as a voter kwa sababu hio kura yako ndio itachange mambo yetu sote in 2027 General elections. Wakazi wa Nairobi, mbele yenu ni kijana wenu, round hii nimekuja kuwaambia wakazi wa Nairobi, vijana, akina mama wa Nairobi. Mjitokeze kwa wingi mwende mkate kura,” he said.
He also emphasised that local problems require leaders who live within the community and understand them firsthand.
“Mimi kama kijana wenu niko tayari kuwatumikia pamoja na nyinyi tushikane. Tunajua shida za Nairobi. Na shida za watu wa Nairobi haziwezi tatuliwa na watu ambao hawakai huku. Tuchange Nairobi yetu,” he said.
What other celebrity is preparing for a 2027 political race?
Internet sensation Cassypool has also stepped forward with his intention to run for the Nairobi gubernatorial seat in 2027. Announcing his plan on December 1, 2025, he clarified that he holds no hostility toward the current governor, Johnson Sakaja. Instead, he acknowledged Sakaja’s work and insisted that he does not intend to create animosity as part of his political approach.
“Yeah, I’m vying for the governor’s seat. I want to be the governor of Nairobi. I don’t want to talk about Sakaja; he is doing his work. I don’t want to be the type of politician who talks ill of other politicians. Sakaja is working; he is doing his best. Tukutane sisi sote 2027, Sakaja, Babu Owino,” Cassypool stated.
Even so, he expressed confidence about competing against some of Nairobi’s most influential political figures.
“Mimi nasimama kuwa Governor wa Nairobi. Bahati ni mtu unahesabu kusimama Governor? Nakuambia watu nitatandika ni Sakaja na Babu Owino,” he said in a past interview.
As more public figures signal their interest in elective positions, the 2027 General Election is shaping up to be one of the most dynamic races yet, fueled by a blend of entertainment, influence and increasing youth engagement in politics.
