Kenyan-born content creator and chess champion Elsa Majimbo believes that choosing the right life partner can be the difference between a happy life and a miserable one. In a post shared on her X account on Tuesday, November 11, 2025, the outspoken comedian said, “The person you marry determines your misery or happiness.”
Her message quickly gained attention online, with many agreeing that relationships can deeply influence mental well-being, success, and overall peace of mind. Majimbo’s comment comes shortly after she publicly stated that she plans to remain child-free, reinforcing her stance on living life on her own terms.
What Inspired Elsa Majimbo’s Reflection on Marriage?
Majimbo’s outlook on relationships appears shaped by her own experiences. Three years ago, she went public with her relationship in 2022, introducing her Caucasian boyfriend to her online followers through affectionate photos and videos.

In one post, she wrote, “To my darling love…thank you for bringing me so much happiness, love, joy. Thank you for showing me what love looks like. Thank you for doing my hair and playing chess with me and buying me things (my favourite). I love you so.”
The pair’s chemistry, captured in cozy clips where her partner even helped her style her hair, quickly drew public admiration.
Why Did Elsa Majimbo and Her Boyfriend Break Up?
In 2024, Majimbo revealed that her relationship with her partner, a DJ named Hakeem, had ended. She attributed their breakup to a lack of trust after a misunderstanding during a professional engagement in Miami.
“I flew to Miami because I was speaking at a panel conference. The first day I rested, the second day I was to speak, it came time to have my mic put up. I had a strapless dress so we had to find a solution,” she explained.
According to Elsa, a technician offered to attach the microphone to her underwear. “We go to a room and there I was thinking that he would leave me and let me mic myself up, but he lifted my dress and put the mic on me,” she said.
Expecting empathy from her boyfriend, Elsa was instead met with suspicion. “After the panel was done, I was angry. I called my boyfriend and the first thing he said was ‘maybe he felt you were flirting with him’.”
Feeling betrayed, she ended the relationship immediately. “I told him I would hang up on him, and told him he would never see me, smell me nor hear from me again. True to my word he has never seen me again,” she said.
Elsa Majimbo’s latest statement adds to her growing reputation as one of Kenya’s most unapologetically independent voices.
