Singer Willy Paul has once again stirred debate in Kenya’s music scene after boldly declaring himself the country’s most internationally recognized artist. Speaking through a post shared on Monday, October 27, 2025, the controversial musician said no other Kenyan artist enjoys as much airplay across global platforms as he does.

Despite feeling overlooked at home, Willy Paul said his music continues to thrive abroad, attracting recognition that many of his peers can only dream of. “Thank you for the recognition. These people know the truth. But because I don’t kiss a****, they don’t give me my flowers, and it’s okay. I still won’t kiss no a****,” he wrote, making it clear that his success does not depend on approval from local industry players.

What Makes Willy Paul Confident About His Global Impact?

Having spent over a decade in the music industry, the “Pozze” hitmaker credits his longevity and consistency for his international success. According to him, his numbers prove that his reach goes far beyond Kenya’s borders. “There’s a reason I’m the only Kenyan artist whose songs get more airplay internationally than most of your artists here,” he stated, adding that no amount of effort to promote others will change that fact. “Ata msukume watu wengine kiasi gani, fact ni ati Pozze ndio anatambulika uko nje. Feel free to differ.”

Willy Paul’s statement comes at a time when conversations around recognition, bias, and fair support in Kenya’s entertainment industry are intensifying. Many artists have accused local stakeholders of favouritism, claiming that certain musicians receive preferential treatment regardless of merit.

How Has the Music Industry Reacted to His Bold Claims?

Willy Paul’s comments have reignited online discussions about who truly carries Kenya’s flag in the global music space. The artist, known for hits such as Toto, Njiwa, and Mmmh, has previously collaborated with international acts, helping expand his influence beyond East Africa.

Despite frequent criticism, the singer insists he does not need validation from anyone. He emphasized that his achievements speak louder than opinions and promised to keep producing music that connects Kenya to the world. His unapologetic stance reinforces his reputation as one of Kenya’s most outspoken and resilient performers, determined to let his global footprint do the talking.
