Controversial blogger Edgar Obare has firmly dismissed claims that he has sold his popular Instagram gossip platform, BNN, calling the reports false and misleading. Speaking directly to his followers on Instagram on Monday, December 29, 2025, Obare addressed growing speculation that ownership of the page had already changed hands. According to him, the rumors had gained traction despite having no factual basis.

“I want to address the concerns of some of you who are worried that we already sold BNN. That is fake news. I have not sold BNN,” Obare stated.

His clarification came after fans raised concerns online, questioning recent activity on the page and suggesting that new management may have taken over. Obare explained that while interest in BNN has been high, no agreement has been finalized. He added that speculation around the page had also been amplified by public figures seeking attention.

“There have been enquiries, and some celebrities (Booty Eater ) even chased clout with the sale, as expected,” he disclosed.

Obare emphasized that transparency with his audience remains a priority. He assured followers that any major decision regarding the future of BNN would be communicated openly and directly through his platforms.

“If anything changes, I will make an announcement,” he said, adding, “We value all your support.”

The response marked an important moment for BNN, a page that has grown into one of Kenya’s most influential gossip platforms, often setting the agenda for online conversations around celebrity culture, social issues, and trending controversies.

Why did Edgar Obare announce plans to sell BNN?

The confusion surrounding the alleged sale stems from Obare’s own announcement earlier this month, where he publicly revealed that BNN Ltd was available for purchase. On Monday, December 15, 2025, he shared a notice on his Instagram Stories stating that the company, including its digital assets and brand identity, was officially on the market.

“FOR SALE. BNN LTD All digital assets, brand, data, and trademarks. Serious Enquiries Only. *Deposit Required,” read the announcement.

The post immediately sparked widespread reaction online, with many interpreting it as confirmation that the page had already been sold. Obare has since clarified that listing the brand for sale does not mean ownership has changed, only that discussions were open to serious buyers willing to meet set conditions.

The timing of the sale announcement closely followed a major legal setback for the blogger. A Nairobi court delivered a landmark ruling in a defamation case involving Obare, ordering him to pay Ksh6 million in damages and issue a public apology. The case was filed by model Bernice Nunah and co-plaintiff Kelvin Kaume Maingi over a post published in 2022.

The ruling, delivered on November 7, 2025, by Hosea Mwangi Nganga in Civil Case No. E6364 of 2022, highlighted the legal risks tied to unverified and defamatory content shared online. The court awarded the plaintiffs Ksh4 million in general damages, with each receiving Ksh2 million, and an additional Ksh2 million in exemplary and aggravated damages, split equally between them.

Beyond the financial penalties, Obare was ordered to issue a full and unconditional apology. He was also instructed to correct and withdraw the defamatory publication dated December 22, 2022, and comply with a permanent injunction barring him from making further defamatory statements about Nunah.

The case has become a reference point in conversations about accountability in digital media, especially among influencers and bloggers who command large audiences. While Obare continues to defend his work and maintain control of BNN, the situation has sparked renewed debate about responsibility, legal exposure, and sustainability in Kenya’s fast-moving online gossip industry.
