Truphena Muthoni Unveils Global Plan to Break Another World Record

Environmental activist Truphena Muthoni has announced plans to pursue another world record, this time through a large scale global tree planting initiative aimed at uniting young people across the world. The announcement comes just weeks after her remarkable 72 hour tree hugging feat was officially recognised by Guinness World Records on Friday, December 12, 2025, cementing her status as one of Kenya’s most visible voices in environmental activism.

Speaking during an interview on Wednesday, December 24, 2025, Muthoni shared details of the upcoming challenge, noting that it will go beyond individual endurance and focus on collective action. “It’s going to be huge, global, and about everyone, not just me,” she said. According to her, preliminary plans point to May 2026, with activities building momentum toward World Environment Day on June 5. The timeline is designed to allow adequate mobilisation, coordination, and awareness across different regions.

The proposed initiative marks a shift from solo record breaking to a shared global experience. While her previous records focused on personal physical and mental resilience, this new effort aims to demonstrate the power of coordinated youth driven climate action on a worldwide scale.

How will the global tree planting initiative engage young people worldwide?

Muthoni revealed that the project will be carried out in partnership with several international organisations, allowing for structured participation across continents. The goal is to unite young people in a single, coordinated effort that combines environmental action with global solidarity. She stressed that the initiative is not only about setting records but also about creating meaningful impact.

“This is about replanting and making a real impact on the planet,” she explained. “We want to show that young people can lead the change and create something tangible for the environment.” By placing youth at the centre of the initiative, Muthoni hopes to inspire a new generation to see environmental conservation as both achievable and urgent.

Her growing influence has already attracted widespread attention, with many drawing comparisons between her work and that of the late Nobel Peace Prize laureate Wangari Maathai. While Muthoni remains focused on the mission rather than the comparisons, her achievements continue to elevate conversations around climate action, especially among younger audiences.

What preparation and support are driving Muthoni’s record breaking journey?

Muthoni attributed her previous successes to disciplined preparation and strong backing from her community and supporters. For her 72 hour tree hugging record, she spent more than five months conditioning her body and mind. Her training included long distance walks, repeated 12 hour test runs, and other physical endurance exercises aimed at preparing her for extended periods of strain.

She believes the same level of commitment and organisation will be critical for the upcoming global initiative. Unlike her earlier records, which tested personal limits, this challenge will depend heavily on coordination, communication, and sustained engagement from participants worldwide.

Muthoni expressed confidence that the initiative will motivate more people to take part in environmental causes beyond symbolic gestures. She encouraged interested individuals and organisations to follow her social media platforms for updates, registration details, and participation guidelines. “We are building something that will not only set a record but also create lasting environmental impact worldwide,” she said.

The activist already holds a Guinness World Record for hugging a tree for 48 hours, a milestone that was ratified on December 12, 2025, following her first successful attempt earlier in the year at Michuki Park in Nairobi. That initial record laid the groundwork for her later 72 hour achievement, which drew national recognition and praise.

As she prepares for this next chapter, Truphena Muthoni’s focus remains clear. The upcoming initiative is designed to turn global attention into action, using the energy and numbers of young people to leave a measurable environmental footprint that extends far beyond any single record.
