CAF Honours President Ruto With Outstanding Achievement Award

President William Ruto has been awarded the Confederation of African Football (CAF) President’s Outstanding Achievement Award 2025 for his contribution to the growth and development of football in Kenya and across the continent. The honour was presented during the 2025 CAF Awards ceremony in Rabat, Morocco, where Kenyan Ambassador to Morocco, Jessica Gakinya, received the award on his behalf.

Football Kenya Federation President Hussein Mohammed praised the recognition and said, “With the elaborate support structure the government is putting in place for sports and particularly football, I have no doubt our players shall soon be recipients of these coveted accolades as well.” His remarks highlighted ongoing investments aimed at strengthening Kenya’s football ecosystem and elevating local talent to continental standards.

Why Did CAF Recognise East African Leadership This Year?

Alongside President Ruto, Tanzania’s President Samia Suluhu Hassan and Uganda’s President Yoweri Museveni were also honoured for their efforts in improving football institutions and supporting major African football initiatives. CAF President Dr Patrice Motsepe acknowledged all three leaders for their dedication to advancing the sport across the region.

Their recognition follows a landmark moment for East African football. Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda co-hosted the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN), showcasing upgraded stadium facilities, efficient logistics and improved operational standards. The event demonstrated the region’s growing capacity to deliver large-scale international tournaments, setting the stage for future collaborations.

Kenya is now preparing to host the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, a commitment that has further reinforced CAF’s confidence in the country’s football development agenda. Continued government investment remains central to ensuring stadiums, training centres and administrative structures meet international expectations.

What Else Stood Out at the 2025 CAF Awards?

The ceremony in Rabat celebrated excellence across African football. Nigeria’s Super Falcons were named Women’s Team of the Year, while their star goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie secured the Women’s Goalkeeper of the Year award. Morocco’s Achraf Hakimi was crowned CAF Men’s Player of the Year after an exceptional season, and Ghizlane Chebbak won the Women’s Player of the Year Award.

CAF’s recognition of East African leadership, coupled with the celebration of top-performing teams and players, underscored a dynamic moment for African football. As Kenya prepares for the 2027 AFCON and continues its investments in sports, the award signals growing continental confidence in its football future.
