Pastor Kanyari Breaks Down at Kenyatta National Hospital After Learning of Betty Bayo’s Death

Tears and disbelief filled Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) after gospel preacher Pastor Kanyari learned of the passing of his ex-wife, Betty Bayo, whose death has left Kenya’s gospel industry mourning deeply. The emotional moment unfolded during a family press briefing where Kanyari sat beside Betty’s husband, Hiram Gitau, as doctors confirmed the heartbreaking news.

What Caused Betty Bayo’s Death?

According to medical reports shared during the briefing, Betty passed away on Monday, November 10, while undergoing treatment at KNH. A doctor addressing the media explained that she had been transferred to the hospital on November 7 due to severe health complications.
“We are here at KNH with the father of the children and family and we want to tell the members of public that it is no longer a rumour but the truth. She has been unwell since last week. She had been diagnosed with acute mild cancer. She was suffering from excessive bleeding and the doctors tried to do their best. She was later transferred here on Friday. The doctors have tried to do their best,” the doctor said.

The press conference, streamed live, showed Kanyari visibly overwhelmed. He sat silently beside Hiram, occasionally holding his head in anguish and wiping tears from his eyes. His pain was evident as the magnitude of the loss sank in. Friends and fellow gospel artists, including DJ Mo, gathered around to console him in his moment of grief.

How Did Pastor Kanyari React to Betty Bayo’s Passing?

Later, Kanyari poured his heart out in a touching tribute that reflected both love and regret.
“It hurts in ways I can’t explain. You left before I could say everything I needed to. I still see you in every laugh our children give, in every little habit that reminds me of you. We had our moments, both the fire and the calm but through it all, you were family. I’ll carry your memory, your love, and your spirit forever. Rest easy… you’ll always be missed,” he shared.

Messages of comfort flooded social media as Kenyans expressed sympathy for both Kanyari and Betty’s families. Many described the scene as a sobering reminder of life’s fragility and the bonds that remain even after separation. Betty’s passing not only silenced one of Kenya’s cherished gospel voices but also left an irreplaceable void in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
