How Did Kamene Goro and Andrew Kibe Work Together on Radio?
Kamene and Kibe’s chemistry on air made them one of the most talked-about duos in Kenyan radio. They first teamed up in March 2018 on NRG Radio’s Breakfast Club, quickly building a loyal audience with their bold, unfiltered takes. In June 2019, the pair transitioned to Kiss FM under Radio Africa Group, a move that sparked controversy and even led to legal disputes with their former employer, NRG Radio.
However, their partnership wasn’t always smooth. Speaking during an interview on Mic Cheque, Kamene revealed that Kibe had a relaxed approach to work that often left her managing the show alone during the early hours. “He would come at 7 am. I did the first hour alone and after every hour he would take a 30-minute break. He needed it to meditate,” she said. When one of the hosts asked if that meant he only worked for one hour altogether, Kamene confirmed with a simple “yes.”
She added humorously, “He needed a 30-minute meditation every top of the hour. To go talk to Bob Marley.”
Despite his unconventional work habits, Kamene admitted that Kibe’s free-spirited personality helped her grow professionally. “He was like that at NRG Radio. Time wasn’t his forte and he is not someone that you can tell what to do. And it is okay, it also helped me perfect my craft. It is very easy for me to even do a show on my own,” she explained.
Kamene described how their bosses treated them differently, noting that there were “Kamene rules and Kibe rules.” She added, “The things that I was subjected to, he wasn’t subjected to. For instance, I had to do air-checks, he never had to do that… Maybe they feared him… I don’t know.”
Who Negotiated Kamene Goro’s Salary at Kiss FM?
Kamene also revealed that when they joined Kiss FM, Kibe handled her salary negotiations, and the two earned equal pay. “He negotiated my initial salary because we got the same salary,” she said, crediting him for helping her secure fair compensation.
After Kibe’s exit from Kiss FM in 2020, he relocated to the United States, where he has since built a strong following as a digital content creator. Kamene, on the other hand, remained at Kiss FM for three more years before leaving the station in 2023.
Away from radio, Kamene has admitted that fame has changed her lifestyle. She shared that she stopped doing some simple everyday activities, such as going to the supermarket, explaining that public attention often intrudes on her personal space.
