Jubilee Party Secretary-General Jeremiah Kioni has issued a strong warning to Kenya’s political class, saying that the country’s Gen Z voters will not allow any form of election manipulation as the 2027 polls draw closer. Speaking in an interview on Monday, October 2025, Kioni urged leaders to learn from recent political turmoil in Tanzania, where disputed elections have triggered widespread unrest.

“The events in Tanzania over the past week show what can happen when citizens are pushed to their limits,” Kioni said, pointing out that Kenya’s leaders should treat the situation as a wake-up call to act with integrity and accountability.

He noted that while African countries often pride themselves on democracy, leaders who undermine fair elections risk igniting resistance from citizens who are more informed and connected than ever before. Kioni emphasized that Kenya’s youth are particularly alert and organized, making it impossible to suppress their political will through outdated tactics.

How Is Gen Z Changing Kenya’s Political Landscape?

According to Kioni, Kenya’s Gen Z has already shown an ability to mobilize and express political awareness peacefully but firmly. He referenced the nationwide mourning of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga earlier this year, where thousands of young people gathered in unity and respect, displaying both emotional intelligence and civic discipline.

“This generation has been there before, and they are prepared. They will not allow their voices to be silenced or elections to be rigged,” Kioni said.

He described Gen Z as a generation that values transparency, justice, and performance. Unlike previous generations, they are less influenced by political propaganda and more likely to challenge leaders who fail to deliver. Their online activism, public demonstrations, and use of digital platforms have created a culture of accountability that leaders can no longer ignore.

Kioni observed that this digital-savvy generation has redefined how politics is conducted, with social media becoming a major force in shaping opinions, exposing corruption, and demanding change. Their growing influence, he said, will make the 2027 elections one of the most closely monitored in Kenya’s history.

Why Is Kioni Urging Leaders to Prepare for Change?

Kioni’s message carried a clear warning to political leaders who may already sense waning popularity. He advised them to plan dignified exits rather than attempt to cling to power through undemocratic means.

“If you are unpopular, make an exit plan. The country must be allowed to function, and the elections must reflect the will of the people,” Kioni said.

He stressed that Kenya cannot afford political instability or manipulation that undermines democracy. Citing reports of citizens facing harassment abroad, Kioni argued that such experiences should remind leaders of the importance of building a fair and functional political system at home.

Kioni also urged all political stakeholders to focus on performance rather than exploiting loopholes or institutional weaknesses. He said that young voters have developed a strong sense of political maturity and are increasingly demanding tangible results in areas such as employment, education, and governance.

The Jubilee Party Secretary-General added that Kenyans are now more vigilant than ever, and attempts to rig elections or suppress dissent will be met with organized resistance. “The country cannot be twisted or coerced into undemocratic outcomes,” he noted.

As Kenya inches closer to the 2027 general elections, Kioni’s remarks serve as a timely reminder that the country’s political future lies in the hands of a generation that has grown up demanding accountability and progress. With Gen Z making up a significant portion of the voting population, their collective influence is expected to shape the direction of the nation’s leadership and redefine how elections are conducted.

Kioni’s call for responsible leadership and transparency echoes a growing sentiment among many Kenyans who want to see a fair and peaceful transition of power. As political temperatures begin to rise, the message is clear: Kenya’s youth are watching, and they will not sit back if their democratic rights are undermined.
