Tanzanian music star Diamond Platnumz has paid an emotional tribute to former Kenyan Prime Minister Raila Odinga, whose death has left East Africa in deep mourning. Raila, 80, passed away on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, in Kochi, India, after suffering a heart attack while receiving medical treatment. His passing marked the end of an era for a man celebrated as one of Africa’s most influential political figures.
Diamond took to Instagram to express his sorrow, sharing a heartfelt photo of himself with Raila alongside a touching message: “Mwenyezi Mungu ailaze roho yake mahali pema peponi. Amen,” which translates to “May God rest his soul in eternal peace.” The post immediately drew emotional reactions from fans across Kenya and Tanzania, many remembering the strong bond between the artist and the late opposition leader.
Their friendship was highlighted during the 2022 General Election when Diamond performed at Raila’s final Azimio la Umoja rally at Moi Sports Centre, Kasarani. The August 6 performance, held just two days before Kenyans went to the polls, was seen as a powerful gesture of solidarity and admiration for Raila’s vision for unity and progress.
