Former Tetu Member of Parliament Francis Thombe Nyammo has died at the age of 86. The announcement was made by National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula through a statement on his X page.
“With deep sorrow, I have learnt of the passing of former Tetu MP, Hon. Francis Thombe Nyammo,” Wetangula wrote, describing him as a leader who was deeply committed to the welfare of his community. He extended condolences to Nyammo’s family, friends, and the people of Tetu, noting that “he will be remembered for his distinguished service, leadership, and commitment to community welfare.”
How is Nyammo being remembered?
Tetu MP Geoffrey Wandeto expressed his grief, calling Nyammo a mentor and close friend. “I am deeply saddened by the passing on of Francis Thombe, FT Nyammo, former MP for Tetu,” Wandeto said. He recalled honoring Nyammo during the Tetu Professionals Dinner in March 2023, a moment he described as unforgettable. “Tetu and Kenya have lost a giant. May his soul rest in eternal peace.”
Nyammo’s career extended beyond politics. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Economics, History, and Political Science before rising to prominence as an academic and businessman. He held leadership roles at the National Bank of Kenya, Kenya Reinsurance, Longhorn Publishers, and served as Chancellor of Inoorero University. His contributions earned him the national honor of Order of the Grand Warrior (OGW).

The Rotary Club of Karen, where Nyammo was an active member, also paid tribute. Club President Linet Ayuko confirmed he died on Sunday morning and remembered him fondly. “PP FT Nyammo was more than a Rotarian to us, he was a pillar of strength, a source of joy, and a true gentleman whose laughter and wisdom lit up every room,” Ayuko said. She noted that within the Rotary family, he was nicknamed “FT,” short for Fun Times, reflecting his warmth and generosity.
Francis Thombe Nyammo will be remembered not only as a leader and businessman but also as a man whose service, mentorship, and community spirit left a lasting mark on Tetu and the nation at large.
