Former Chief Justice David Maraga has made it clear that his 2027 presidential campaign will be built on integrity, accountability, and service to the people. Speaking directly to Kenyans through a social media post, Maraga pledged to run a corruption-free government if elected.

“I will not steal from you and will not allow anybody to steal your money,” he stated firmly. Maraga further promised that, under his leadership, neither he nor his family or friends would conduct business with the government, stressing that he intends to avoid any conflict of interest.

What is Maraga promising Kenyans?

The former CJ outlined his agenda, noting that he would prioritize the rule of law to strengthen institutions and grow the economy. He also highlighted healthcare and education as sectors in dire need of reform, promising to direct resources to ensure quality services for all Kenyans.

Maraga has been a vocal critic of the Kenya Kwanza administration, accusing it of flouting the constitution and undermining human rights. He has particularly faulted some of its empowerment programs, which he believes create opportunities for misuse of public funds. “These things you are told are empowerment …. What for? You are given Ksh.1000, how long will that take you? First, ask yourself where it is coming from,” he told residents during a town hall meeting in Kirinyaga.

How will Maraga handle campaign funds?

Addressing concerns about transparency in political campaigns, Maraga assured Kenyans that his presidential bid would uphold honesty at every stage. “My commitment to you, as best as humanly possible, guided by integrity and constitutional fidelity, is that of complete transparency, accountability, and in the responsible handling of your resources, data, time and effort,” he said.

With many Kenyans frustrated by corruption scandals, Maraga’s message resonates with citizens demanding ethical leadership. His reputation from the judiciary, where he was widely respected for his principled decisions, could become a strong pillar of his political ambitions as the 2027 elections draw closer.
