A 14-year-old boy named Brian is recovering from injuries after allegedly being assaulted by a priest at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Mugango Parish in Bomet County.

What happened to the boy?

According to his father, Stephen Rono, the priest attacked Brian using a club, striking him on the head several times. The reason for the beating remains unclear, and the priest’s name has not been disclosed. “I found him on a boda boda; he had been beaten up by his father (priest) for a ‘mistake’. If he was wrong, why beat him with a club?” said Rono.

The incident left the teenager in a critical condition before he was rushed to Chelimo Hospital for treatment.

What was the boy’s medical condition?

Medical officer Gilbert Rono, who received Brian at the facility on Tuesday evening, confirmed he had visible injuries to the head and hands, as well as blood clots in his eyes. “He was in a bad state, with injuries to the head and hands. He was given first aid and is now recovering. His eyes were red, and he had soft tissue injuries on the head,” he explained.

The father expressed frustration over the incident, demanding accountability and questioning why such excessive force was used on a child.

What action has been taken so far?

The family has since reported the matter to authorities in Bomet, where statements have been recorded. Stephen Rono insists that justice must be served to protect his son and prevent similar cases from happening in the future.

Brian remains under medical care as investigations into the assault continue.
