Elon Musk Says He Regrets Harsh Criticism of Trump on X

Elon Musk has admitted that some of his recent online remarks about former U.S. President Donald Trump crossed the line. In a post shared on Wednesday on his social platform X, the billionaire entrepreneur said, “I regret some of my posts about President @realDonaldTrump last week. They went too far.”

This statement comes just days after tensions between the two influential figures played out publicly on social media. Their falling-out was sparked by Musk’s outspoken criticism of Trump’s proposed government spending bill, which has been a topic of heated political debate in Congress.

The bill, referred to by Trump as “big” and “beautiful,” faced opposition from several Republican lawmakers. Some of these lawmakers encouraged Musk, a major GOP donor during the last presidential cycle, to financially back challengers against any Republican who supported the bill. Musk’s social media posts strongly criticized the bill, contributing to the escalating tension.

In response, Trump issued a stern warning through NBC News, stating that Musk would face “very serious consequences” if he moved forward with plans to fund opponents of Republican lawmakers who vote in favor of the legislation. While Trump didn’t elaborate on what those consequences might be, he also referred to Musk as “disrespectful.”

This public dispute has captured the attention of both political observers and social media users, especially given Musk’s increasing influence in both tech and politics. As the owner of X and the head of companies like Tesla and SpaceX, Musk’s opinions carry significant weight, especially when voiced directly to millions of followers.

Musk’s decision to walk back his criticism signals a possible shift in tone, though it remains to be seen how the situation will evolve, especially with the spending bill still under congressional review and the 2024 U.S. election season heating up.
