Ruto Pledges Ksh.50,000 for 70 Youth and Women in Every Ward

President William Ruto has announced a new initiative that will see 70 youth and women in every ward across the country receive Ksh.50,000 each to start businesses. This pledge, made during a church service in Nairobi, is part of his broader “empowerment programmes” aimed at supporting local communities and boosting entrepreneurship.

The President said this program will cover approximately 100,000 young people nationwide. It aligns with his Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda, which prioritizes grassroots development. According to Ruto, the plan is designed to support those who are economically disadvantaged and help them become self-reliant through small-scale business ventures.

While addressing the congregation, Ruto explained that his focus remains on uplifting those at the lower end of the economic spectrum. He acknowledged the criticism directed at him but maintained that his mission is clear and unshaken. “We are looking for those at the bottom to uplift them. Those shouting at me are at the top; they should give me a chance to help the rest,” he said.

Ruto dismissed political distractions, saying they will not derail his commitment to national development. He reiterated his determination to fulfill the promises he made during the election campaign. “I don’t care about the noises. I am focused. God allowed me to lead, and I will carry out my assignment to transform this nation,” he said.

The President also took a swipe at previous administrations, claiming they failed to implement key projects such as Universal Health Coverage and affordable housing. He insisted that under his leadership, these promises would become a reality.

In addition to the business funding program, Ruto announced a new sewage system for Nairobi as part of a larger Ksh.40 billion project aimed at cleaning up the Nairobi River. The project is expected to be completed by January 2027.

These pledges come at a time when many Kenyans are facing economic hardships. Ruto’s announcement adds to a growing list of financial commitments targeting community development, youth empowerment, and urban infrastructure.
