Ugandan Star DJ, Bush Baby Found Dead in Studio

The East African music scene is mourning the sudden loss of one of its most beloved pioneers. DJ Bush Baby, whose real name was Michael Benjamin Owor, was found dead in his private studio in Entebbe, Uganda, on June 5, 2025. He was 50 years old.

For two days, Bush Baby’s family hadn’t heard from him. After becoming increasingly worried, they decided to check on him at his studio. When no one answered, they broke in, only to find his lifeless body inside. The cause of death hasn’t yet been made public.

Bush Baby was a trailblazer in East Africa’s entertainment industry. Starting at a time when celebrity DJs were rare, he became one of the most respected names in music, mentoring countless young DJs and leaving behind a lasting legacy.

The news of his passing spread quickly online, prompting an outpouring of tributes from fans, fellow artists, and public figures.

Ugandan music legend Jose Chameleone shared a heartfelt message:

“Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us and for your contribution to the music fraternity. May the light of the Lord shine on you forever. Rest in peace, our beloved brother.”

Activist and lawyer Agather Atuhaire also honored him. She shared how, just a few months ago, DJ Bush Baby had reached out, eager to use his voice and creativity to push for positive change in Uganda.

“He had so many great ideas, and we were just getting started. It’s heartbreaking that he left us before we could bring them to life,” she said.

Fans took to social media to express their sorrow. One wrote, “You were more than a DJ. You were a connector, a vibe, a believer in people. Thank you for the love, the laughs, and the belief. You’ll never be forgotten.”
