Before becoming one of Kenya’s top photographers, Kapedo faced a tough journey filled with setbacks, doubt, and sacrifice. In recent interviews with Dr. Kingori and the Minds and Moves podcast, Kapedo shared an emotional story about how his rise in photography began with a powerful act of love from his mother.
At a time when he had no job, no income, and no clear path forward, Kapedo returned home discouraged. But instead of giving up on him, his mother made a bold move. She sold a piece of land just to help him buy his first camera.
“She didn’t even understand what photography was,” he said during the interview. “But she believed in me enough to invest in my dream.”

Kapedo spoke honestly about the ups and downs of trying to make it in the creative industry. There were moments when things didn’t go his way, when he felt like a failure, and when others doubted his path. But that sacrifice from his mother became a turning point, it gave him a reason to keep pushing forward.
Young creatives across Kenya are now looking up to him, with a belief that even one person can change everything.
