Not everyone was rocking out during Linkin Park’s recent performance, especially not Dutch soccer legend Marco van Basten.
The famous rock band hit the stage at the UEFA Champions League final in Munich, Germany, putting on a show that had fans around the world buzzing. But while many were thrilled to see Linkin Park perform, Van Basten didn’t hold back his opinion, and it wasn’t pretty.
Speaking on Dutch TV channel Ziggo Sport, the former Netherlands player went on a full rant about the performance. “The Linkin Park performance was garbage, absolutely garbage,” he said. “It’s a disgrace that UEFA allows this. I find it idiotic… Worthless, totally worthless.”

According to a report by Metal Sucks, Van Basten later explained that his frustration wasn’t just about the music. He said the performance felt unnecessary and said including it in the game broadcast might have been a distraction for the players. Even with that explanation, though, calling it “garbage” and “idiotic” multiple times felt harsh to many fans.
Still, if you’re a Linkin Park fan, don’t let the criticism get to you. The band is currently gearing up for a massive world tour in 2025, bringing their energy to fans across the globe. And they’re not going alone. They’ll be joined by other exciting artists like AFI, Spiritbox, PVRIS, and solo acts such as grandson and JPEGMAFIA.
So, whether you loved the UEFA performance or not, Linkin Park isn’t slowing down anytime soon. With shows lined up and fans still packing venues, it’s clear that a few harsh words won’t stop them from doing what they do best, rocking the stage.
