Kenya’s Emmanuel Wanyonyi delivered a breathtaking performance to win gold in the men’s 800m at the World Championships in Tokyo, extending Kenya’s medal tally to ten. The Olympic champion, known for his explosive finishing power, stopped the clock at a championship record of 1:41.86.

Wanyonyi’s victory came after an intense battle on the final stretch, edging Algeria’s Djamel Sedjati by just four hundredths of a second. Sedjati settled for silver in 1:41.90, while Canada’s defending champion Marco Arop was pushed into third place, earning bronze in 1:41.95.

The triumph not only secured Wanyonyi’s first world title but also reinforced Kenya’s dominance in middle-distance running. His consistency on the global stage has established him as one of the brightest young stars in athletics, and his record-breaking run adds to the nation’s legacy in the 800m.
