First Lady Rachel Ruto captured attention at the Africa Climate Summit (ASC2) in Ethiopia, where she joined President William Ruto for the high-profile event. Beyond her striking presence, she used her platform to highlight one of Africa’s most pressing challenges: the need for clean cooking solutions.

What Did Rachel Ruto Say at the Summit?
Addressing delegates, Rachel stressed the urgency of addressing Africa’s $4 billion annual financing gap for clean cooking. She warned that nearly one billion people in sub-Saharan Africa still rely on firewood and charcoal, exposing families to harmful smoke. This reliance, she noted, contributes to the loss of over 800,000 lives annually, including 200,000 children under five.
Her message was both hopeful and bold: “By 2030, let Africa be celebrated as the continent that turned smoke-filled kitchens into engines of health, equity, and prosperity.” The statement underscored her vision of a healthier, more sustainable future for African households.
While her speech resonated, Rachel’s fashion choice also became a talking point online. She wore a beige kaftan-style garment crafted with vibrant African print fabric, accented by intricate floral motifs. Paired with low, closed white heels, the outfit embodied both elegance and cultural identity. The look drew admiration for its balance of tradition and sophistication, making her stand out among dignitaries.
Has Rachel Ruto’s Style Drawn Attention Before?
Rachel has often been in the spotlight for her wardrobe choices. During the Dutch king and queen’s visit, she trended online after Kenyans noticed she repeated a peplum top and ruffled skirt previously worn at a wedding earlier in the year. More recently, she impressed at Madaraka Day celebrations with a patriotic dress inspired by the Kenyan flag, a look that earned her praise for effort and creativity.
