Kenya’s Ryan Ogam Completes Transfer to Austria’s Wolfsberger AC

Kenya’s rising star Ryan Ogam has secured a dream move from Tusker FC to Austrian Bundesliga side Wolfsberger AC, signaling a major leap forward in his young career. The 20-year-old striker, born in Nairobi in December 2004, is expected to join his new teammates immediately after the international break. Wolfsberger, who finished fourth in last season’s Austrian Bundesliga playoffs, see Ogam as a crucial addition to strengthen their attacking options.

How did Ryan Ogam emerge as Kenya’s next big striker?

Ogam first gained widespread recognition during CHAN 2024, where his goals against Morocco and Zambia helped propel Kenya into the quarterfinals. His sharp finishing and ability to create space drew comparisons to national team captain Michael Olunga. Harambee Stars coach Benni McCarthy praised his “natural finishing and clever movement,” highlighting qualities that made him stand out at just 20 years old.

Interestingly, Ogam did not begin his career as a striker. Originally playing as a defensive midfielder, he was moved into attack during a crisis in Tusker’s lineup due to injuries. The switch unlocked his scoring instincts, and he went on to register 15 goals in only 17 FKF Premier League matches last season. That breakout form cemented his status as one of the most lethal forwards in Kenyan football.

What path led Ogam to Europe?

Before returning to Tusker in 2024, Ogam developed his game with local clubs including Galaxy FC, Sunrise FC, UEFA Despanol, Rainbow FC, and later gained international exposure in the UAE with Elite Falcons. His return to Kenya was quickly followed by a national team call-up for the Mapinduzi Cup in January 2025, where he continued to impress. Ogam’s move to Wolfsberger allows him to test himself in European competition and continue Kenya’s proud tradition of producing top strikers.
