
Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have arrested two women in Nairobi after they were found with counterfeit US currency worth approximately Ksh70 million. The suspects, identified as Ifrah Ali Jeyte and Qamar Salat Abdi, were nabbed in the Upper Hill area during a sting operation led by officers from the DCI Nairobi Regional Office.
How was the counterfeit money discovered?
According to a statement from the DCI, “Detectives have apprehended two women in possession of substantial quantities of counterfeit US dollars.” The operation was executed with precision, leading officers to a handbag containing bundles of fake $100 bills.
The true scale of the seizure was revealed when the currency was counted at the DCI Nairobi Area Headquarters. Investigators confirmed the total amount as USD 560,000, equivalent to approximately Ksh70 million in counterfeit currency.
What happens next for the suspects?
The two women are currently being processed as detectives complete their investigations. Authorities have confirmed that the suspects will face charges in court, marking the next phase of the crackdown on financial crimes in the capital.
