Tanzanian Premier League champions Yanga SC will host Kenya’s Bandari FC in an international club friendly on September 12 at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam. The clash will headline Mwananchi Day, the club’s annual fan festival that celebrates Yanga’s identity while connecting players and supporters ahead of the new season.

Why Is the Yanga vs Bandari Match Generating Hype?

Although officially a pre-season fixture, the game has attracted regional attention following tensions between Kenya and Tanzania during the recent CHAN tournament. The rivalry between Harambee Stars and Taifa Stars has spilled into the club scene, giving the match more weight than the usual friendly.

Bandari FC CEO Tony Kibwana confirmed the team’s plans for a Tanzanian tour that begins on August 30. “We will leave Mombasa on the 30th for Tanzania, where we’ll have our pre-season, including a tournament with various local clubs. The climax will be against Yanga FC during Mwananchi Day,” Kibwana stated.

Bandari will look to build on past success in Tanzania, having previously defeated Simba SC at the same venue. Despite losing some key players, Kibwana revealed the club is set to unveil new signings. “Yes, we’ve lost key players, but soon we will unveil our new lineup, and I’m confident they will do wonders,” he added.

Which Players Could Influence the Game?

Bandari contributed five players to Kenya’s CHAN squad, including goalkeeper Farouk Shikalo, who is returning to familiar ground after playing in the Tanzanian league. On the other side, Yanga will feature four Taifa Stars players, led by forward Clement Mzize, adding extra spice to the encounter.

What Does This Match Mean for Tanzanian Fans?

Yanga’s spokesperson, Ali Kamwe, made it clear that the game carries national pride. “This will not be just a friendly match. I want Kenyans to hear this: we have handed over our national frustrations to Yanga. They will defend Tanzania’s pride against Bandari,” Kamwe declared in a local radio interview.

With emotions running high, the Mwananchi Day clash promises to be more than just a pre-season contest, fueling the football rivalry between Kenya and Tanzania.
