President William Ruto has praised Harambee Stars for what he described as a “remarkable run” at the Pamoja African Nations Championship (CHAN) following their dramatic quarter-final exit against Madagascar. Kenya lost 4-3 on penalties at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani, but the Head of State celebrated the team’s courage and determination.
In a message shared on X, Ruto said the players had “silenced doubters” and “lifted the spirit of a nation,” reminding Kenyans that “when Kenyans play with courage, confidence, and determination, nothing is impossible.” He added, “Yes, we bowed out at the quarter-finals, but we fought valiantly to the very end. To lose in the lottery of penalties is no dishonour; to push the contest to such a finish is itself a badge of greatness.”
What Did Ruto Say About Fans and the Tournament?
The President congratulated Madagascar for its progress but urged Kenyans to continue supporting the tournament, noting that Kenya remains a co-host of the “historic Pamoja CHAN.” He encouraged fans to maintain their passion in the stands, stating, “Let us continue to fill Kasarani with cheer, energy, pride, and love for the game, all the way to the final whistle.”
Looking beyond the tournament, Ruto called on Harambee Stars to carry the lessons from CHAN into preparations for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations. His rallying words were clear: “Kenya shall rise. Kenya shall triumph.”
Kenya’s spirited campaign may have ended in heartbreak, but the national team’s performance has left fans hopeful about the future. With the AFCON on the horizon, Harambee Stars now have both inspiration and belief to build on.
