A long-serving teacher at Alliance Girls High School, Peter Albert Ayiro, has officially resigned from the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) following a wave of sexual misconduct allegations that have stirred public debate.
In a resignation letter dated August 17, Mr. Ayiro cited “false accusations” and intense public pressure as the driving force behind his decision.
Why Did Peter Ayiro Resign?
“This decision has not come easily. It is a result of the false accusations levelled against me. I continue to endure evil, monstrous, and persistent cyberbullying, threats of physical harm, public humiliation, and even being ostracized from my church,” he wrote.
Mr. Ayiro, who said he has taught for 26 years, emphasized that he was stepping down to protect his dignity and peace of mind. He described the accusations as damaging to both his personal and professional life, adding that the stress had become unbearable.
What Steps Did He Take Before Leaving?
In his letter, Mr. Ayiro confirmed that he had paid one month’s salary instead of notice, attaching an M-Pesa transaction of Ksh.105,000 to the TSC. He also requested guidance on clearance and exit procedures.
Despite the controversy, he expressed gratitude for his time in the profession. “I am grateful for the opportunity to have served as a teacher for the last 26 years. I have gained invaluable experience and growth during my tenure. I hope that the Commission continues to uphold fairness, transparency, and support for all its employees in their noble role as educators,” he said.
What Sparked the Allegations?
The resignation comes at a time of heightened scrutiny after Africa Uncensored published accounts in July linking Mr. Ayiro, who was also the Christian Union patron at the school, to allegations of sexual abuse and grooming. The revelations triggered investigations and widespread public concern, ultimately leading to his departure from the TSC.
