Jobless Nairobi Couple Shocked by Unexpected Triplets Despite Using Family Planning Pills

Job Mogoi and his wife, residents of Mukuru Kwa Reuben in Nairobi, recently welcomed a set of triplets, despite the fact that they were relying on family planning pills. Now parents of four, the couple is struggling to make ends meet while raising three newborns and an older child, all while unemployed.

How Did the Triplet Pregnancy Happen?

Job says the news came as a complete surprise. “My wife was on the pill, and we knew we were okay, but she still got pregnant. I don’t know if she had used them for a long time or used expired ones, but she got pregnant when I least expected it,” he said in an interview with Citizen TV.

At the time, Job had just lost his job. While trying to prepare for the arrival of what they thought was a single baby, a scan at six months revealed twins. However, during delivery, doctors discovered a third baby. “I had to look for a loan to take her to the hospital,” Job explained. “We had to go to CS because one of the kids was lying across, and we were referred to the Kenyatta National Hospital.”

He ended up registering for the State Health Insurance (SHA) that day, paying for a full year. But navigating the public health system wasn’t easy. “We were told that she needed more blood. We paid three hundred shillings to each person who came to help us with blood,” he said.

How Is the Family Coping with the Triplets Now?

The couple has found creative ways to stretch their limited resources. “I have never bought any medicines up to now. I buy glucose for KSh 10, and as she breastfeeds one child, he gives the other glucose.” Job shared. His wife added, “The journey has not been easy, but I’m very grateful. I don’t have any training; I just get what God has provided.”

Job is asking for support or job opportunities to help him care for his family. He can be reached at 0798650132.

Support and encouragement have poured in from social media users:

@naomifavor2887: “This is a big blessing. God will provide.”

@MaryannAlivitsa: “Be grateful. Kuna watu wako na pesa na wamenyimwa uzao. God will provide.”
