Kenya Police FC has officially clinched the 2024/2025 FKF Premier League title, marking the first championship in the club’s history. Their 1-0 victory over Shabana FC on Sunday at the Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos sealed the deal and completed a remarkable rise from mid-table status to league dominance.

The crucial moment came in the 75th minute when Gabriel Odhiambo powered home a header from a perfectly delivered corner by Tyson Otieno. That single goal was all the law enforcers needed to secure their place at the top of the table.

The win pushed Police FC to 64 points, placing them six points ahead of Gor Mahia, who managed a 3-2 win over Ulinzi Stars in a parallel fixture at Ulinzi Complex in Nairobi. With only one round of games left, Police cannot be caught, and they will be officially awarded the Premier League trophy next week during their final home match against Gor Mahia.

This historic title run is particularly impressive considering head coach Etienne Ndayiragije took over mid-season. The former Burundi national team coach became Police’s eighth head coach in just three years, replacing Salim Babu, who was let go alongside his technical staff due to poor performance. Before Ndayiragije’s arrival, Beldine Odemba, head coach of Police Bullets, briefly stepped in on an interim basis.

Police FC only joined the top tier in the 2020/2021 season, finishing 10th in their debut year. They followed that up with fourth and third-place finishes before finally lifting the trophy this season. Their consistent improvement has now earned them a ticket to next season’s CAF Champions League. Last year, they took part in the CAF Confederation Cup but were knocked out by Zamalek in the second preliminary round.

In other FKF Premier League action on Sunday, AFC Leopards beat FC Talanta 3-1, while Tusker FC were held to a goalless draw by Kariobangi Sharks. Mara Sugar vs. Murang’a SEAL and Bandari vs. Mathare United both ended 0-0. Sofapaka edged Posta Rangers 2-1, Kakamega Homeboyz beat Bidco United 1-0, and Nairobi City Stars claimed a 2-1 win over KCB FC.
